Walks

  • Routes

We, at Les Galopins, offer you different itineraries and duration of rides from 15 min to several hours.

The 15' discovery walk crosses the cow fields and overlooks lake Confins. It is completely secure and allows an introduction to a ride with a donkey or a pony.

The duration of walks are adapted to your family's needs, a gentle stroll without any hurry (3 or 4 km), picnic breaks will extend the duration off the walk.

These routes are well marked and a map is given to you at the start.

Using the Openrunner application on your mobile, you can prepare your ride and follow your route in real time.

  • Can I go on another route?

The list of walks is shown on our site under the heading "Ours walks".

Some areas  are impassable with a donkey and to avoid getting lost, we advise that you stick to the route.

If you want a personalized or 2-day itinerary, contact us to discuss the hiking possibilities.

  • Level of walks

Choose your walk according to your level of walking, who is in your group and the age of the participants.

We are here to help you prepare your walk according to your wishes. Contact us by phone.

All ours walks are accessible to families.

Please note if you have health problems or are an elderly person, you need a certain level of strength to lead  the animal.

  • What equipment is needed?

Bring light rainwear, comfortable hiking shoes that you have already worn in, caps and sunscreen.

A small emergency kit including antiseptic, plasters and aspirin is always practical.

Don’t forget water, snacks or a picnic.

Pack the map that shows all the routes.

  • The 12 commandments for the hiker

    -Respect and safety :

What a treat to be able to walk in a preserved environment. Please be respectful of nature and make sure you are safe at all times.

    -Make good choices :

Is the hike you are planning suitable for the weather conditions, your physical abilities, your equipment and the time you have allocated? Always be cautious when walking in the mountains.

    - Find out about the weather conditions :

The weather in the mountains can change very quickly so make sure you have found out about the weather on the day.

    - Respect the layout of the trails :

Do not use shortcuts. The trampling of vegetation and the ensuing erosion can rapidly degrade an environment.

    - Be respectful at all times :

We are not the only ones using the paths. Please think of others and the serenity of nature. Do not pick the flowers and please take your rubbish with you (even banana peels).

    - Dogs are allowed on certain walks but need to be on a leash.

    - Close fences and gates behind you and walk around crops.

Animals

  • Conduct of your animal

Before your departure, you will be given an explanation of how to drive the animal and the safety instructions.

Throughout the walk, you will hold the animal on a lead and you will walk in front of it. It will follow you without difficulty but ensure that you are in charge or else the walk could take longer than expected. If you go to a refuge, you must learn to pack your equipment on the donkey.

It is an apprenticeship without difficulty if you follow the advice that you will have been given.

  • Equipment for your animal

When you leave with an animal we provide you with :

    • A saddle for both donkeys and ponies
    • A halter and a rope to lead
    • Two bags to hold your luggage, on a donkey only, to carry your picnic  (subject to availability) or when you go to a refuge.
    • ( to put under levels of walks – Pack the map that shows all the routes)
    • Grooming kit (brushes, curry combs, hoof picks, etc.) if you are going to a refuge.
    • The welcome, explanations, advice from our team and the roadmap.
  • Can children ride the donkey or the pony?

Children can ride on the animals under the responsibility of the parents.

We provide a helmet for all ages of children.

The maximum weight allowed is 50kgs on the 15 min walk and 40kgs for the longer walks.

We recommend 2 adults, with children aged 2, one adult to lead the animal and one adult to keep an eye of the child.

  • Water and food

Our animals sleep out in the open air in the fields around the Confins golf course.

On the walks, the animals will find water to drink during the day.

If you go to a refuge, a field is set up for the animals.

If you spend a night under the stars, a special long rope is provided to secure the animal.

  • Big ears...

The donkey is a clever animal, it will test you...

One person should walk in front and the others behind the donkey and gently tap its rear with a small branch, if necessery.

Never wrap the lead around your hand (a donkey can pow 300 kg).

On the descent,  stay in front of him and wave a small stick in front of his nose if he is going too fast.

If the donkey escapes, don't run after him, he will run faster than you. Go around him and block his way.

    Avoid shouting.

Be careful : never tie up a donkey on a steep slope and always keep it under surveillance.

When you stop for your picnic , take his pack off.

He loves to roll in the grass, remember to take the pack off so that he doesn't gets hurt.

  • Can I take my dog?

Your dog can accompany you on the walk, but must be on a leash.

After a while, your dog will become accustomed to  the animal.

It is preferable that another person holds the dog on the leash.
